Play Can Change Lives
This fall, McSweeney’s is collecting donations in support of Right to Play’s PLAY Program, helping bring safe, culturally relevant, play-based programs to Indigenous children and youth in 60 communities across Canada.
Every child deserves the opportunity to play, learn, connect and grow. Together, we can help make that possible.
What is Right to Play?
Right to Play is a global organization that uses the power of play to help children and youth build the skills, confidence, and resilience they need to thrive.
In Canada, Right to Play works in partnership with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities to deliver programs that are community-led, culturally relevant, and rooted in play.
Through the PLAY Program, local youth workers are trained and supported to deliver regular programming for children and youth in their own communities. These programs create opportunities for kids to be active, build relationships, develop leadership skills, connect with their culture, and have a safe space to simply be kids.
The PLAY Program has been running for more than 15 years, supporting communities across Canada.
Why Play Matters
Play is more than just fun. It can help children develop the physical, social, and emotional skills they need throughout their lives.
Right To Play’s 2025 impact data shows that children and youth participating in the PLAY Program experienced meaningful outcomes:
- 93% reported improved health and wellbeing.
- 92% felt more confident about themselves.
- 90% said the program helped them learn about and enjoy their family and community culture and traditions.
These programs also help children develop positive coping skills, empathy, healthy habits, and connections with trusted people in their communities.
