McSweeney's 30th Anniversary: Official Contest Rules

TO COMPLETE YOUR ENTRY, YOU MUST READ AND AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING TERMS.  PARTICIPATION IN THIS CONTEST CONSTITUTES FULL AND UNCONDITIONAL AGREEMENT AND ACCEPTANCE OF THESE CONTEST RULES AND REGULATIONS

ELIGIBILITY:

The Contest is only open to residents of Canada, excluding the province of Quebec, who have reached the legal age of majority in their province or territory of residence at the time of entry, except employees, representatives or agents (and those with whom such persons are living, whether related or not) of Direct Plus Food Group, a division of Premium Brands Operating Limited Partnership (the “Sponsor”), its parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, prize suppliers, advertising/promotion agencies and any other individual or entity involved in the development, production, administration, or fulfillment of the Contest (collectively, the “Contest Parties”).

CONTEST PERIOD and Monthly Contest Periods:

The McSweeney’s 30th Anniversary Celebration Contest (the “Contest”) begins on May 1, 2025 at 12:01:00 AM (Mountain Standard Time) and ends on September 30, 2025 at 11:59:00 PM (Mountain Standard Time) (the “Contest Period”). During the Contest Period, the Sponsor will conduct 4 monthly Contests (each a “Monthly Contest”). Each Monthly Contest will begin at 12:00:01 a.m. MT on the first day of each month during the Contest Period and will end at 11:59:59 p.m. MT on the last day of that month (the “Monthly Contest Period”).

The McSweeney’s 30th Anniversary Celebration Contest (the “Contest”) begins on May 1, 2025 at 12:01:00 a.m. Mountain Time (“MT”) and ends on September 30, 2025 at 11:59:59 p.m. MT (the “Contest Period”).

During the Contest Period, the Sponsor will conduct four (4) separate Monthly Contests (each a “Monthly Contest”), one for each of the following months: May, June, July, and August 2025.

Each Monthly Contest will:

- Begin at 12:01:00 a.m. MT on the first day of the applicable month; and

- End at 11:59:59 p.m. MT on the last business day of that month (each a “Monthly Contest Closing Date” and collectively the “Monthly Contest Periods”).

AGREEMENT TO BE LEGALLY BOUND BY THESE RULES:

By participating in this Contest, you are signifying your agreement that you have read and agree to be legally bound by these Official Contest Rules (the “Rules”).

HOW TO ENTER:

No purchase necessary. To enter, go to www.mcsweeneys.ca/30years (the “Website”) and follow the on-screen instructions to obtain and fully complete the Official Entry Form (the “Entry Form”).  You must fully complete the Entry Form with all of the required information and follow the on-screen instructions to submit your completed Entry Form.

Once you have provided all of the required information and completed all of the foregoing steps to enter (as determined by the Sponsor in its sole and absolute discretion), you will be eligible to receive an entry (an “Entry”).

To be eligible, your Entry must be submitted and received in accordance with these Rules during the Contest Period

ENTRY LIMIT:

There is a limit of one (1) Entry per person during the Contest Period. All eligible Entries for the Contest must be received by the Sponsor within the Contest Period, must comply with the terms hereof and must have a correctly answered Skill-Testing Question (defined below).

If it is discovered by the Sponsor (using any evidence or other information made available to or otherwise discovered by the Sponsor) that any person has attempted to: (i) exceed any of the limits stated in these Rules; and/or (ii) use multiple names, identities, email addresses and/or any automated, macro, script, robotic or other system(s) or program(s) to enter or otherwise participate in or to disrupt this Contest; then he/she may be disqualified from the Contest in the sole and absolute discretion of the Sponsor. An Entry may be rejected if (in the sole and absolute discretion of the Sponsor): (a) the Entry is not submitted and received in accordance with these Rules during the Contest Period; and/or (b) the Entry is not otherwise in compliance with these Rules (all as determined by Sponsor in its sole and absolute discretion). The Released Parties (defined below) are not responsible for late, lost, misdirected, delayed, incomplete or incompatible Entries or any other Contest-related information (all of which are void).

VERIFICATION:

All Entries and entrants are subject to verification at any time and for any reason.  The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to require proof of identity and/or eligibility (in a form acceptable to the Sponsor – including, without limitation, government issued photo identification): (i) for the purposes of verifying an individual’s eligibility to participate in this Contest; (ii) for the purposes of verifying the eligibility and/or legitimacy of any Entry or any other information submitted (or purportedly submitted) for the purposes of this Contest; and/or (iii) for any other reason the Sponsor deems necessary, in its sole and absolute discretion, for the purposes of administering this Contest in accordance with these Rules.  Failure to provide such proof to the complete satisfaction of the Sponsor within the timeline specified by the Sponsor may result in disqualification in the sole and absolute discretion of the Sponsor.  The sole determinant of the time for the purposes of this Contest will be the Contest server machine(s).

MONTHLY PRIZES:

There will be four (4) Monthly Prizes available to be won, one for each of the following months: May, June, July, and August 2025. Each Monthly Prize will have a minimum retail value of $1,000 CAD. Prizes will differ each month. Monthly draws will occur on the last business day of each respective month.

Grand Prize – “The Ultimate Canadian Road Trip”:

GRAND Prize Description:

There is one (1) Grand Prize available to be won, consisting of an adventure-themed Canadian road trip for the confirmed winner and one (1) guest (the “Guest”). The Grand Prize must be taken from July 7 to July 17, 2026, and includes:

GRAND Prize Components:

1.       RV Road Trip Experience:

a.      An eight (8) day RV rental (July 8–17, 2026), requiring the winner or Guest to drive the RV from Vancouver, British Columbia (the “Starting Point”) to Calgary, Alberta (the “Ending Point”).

b.      RV type, size, and amenities will be determined at the Sponsor’s sole discretion and subject to availability.

2.       Air Travel:

a.      Two (2) economy-class round-trip airline tickets:

                                                                                                  i.      From the Canadian international airport nearest to the winner’s residence to Vancouver on July 7, 2026; and

                                                                                               ii.      Returning from Calgary to the same airport on July 17, 2026.

                                                                                             iii.      All flights and any necessary connections will be arranged by the Sponsor.

3.       Accommodations:

a.      Eight (8) nights of campground stays along the Vancouver-to-Calgary route.

b.      Campsite and/or RV park bookings will be selected and arranged by the Sponsor at its sole discretion.

4.       Spending Cash:

a.      $1,500 CAD in spending money for food, gas, and incidental expenses during the Trip.

GRAND PRIZE Approximate Retail Value (ARV)

The total approximate retail value of the Grand Prize is $9,200 CAD, based on a sample departure from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. Actual value may vary depending on departure city, dates, RV availability, and campground bookings. The Prize winner will not be entitled to receive the balance of any amount representing the difference of the Prize’s retail value and the Prize’s actual cost, whether in cash, gift cards of any kind or otherwise. No frequent flyer miles will be available for the Flights.

The Grand Prize does not include:

(i)                  Ground transportation to/from the Departure Airport before departure or after return;

(ii)                Ground transportation between the airport and RV rental facility;

(iii)              Meals, additional excursions, travel insurance, baggage fees, upgrades, optional equipment, gratuities, or any personal expenses not explicitly mentioned above.

The Grand Prize winner and the Guest must:

(i)                  Travel together on the same itinerary and have identical departure and return dates;

(ii)                Possess valid government-issued travel documentation (e.g., photo ID or passport) prior to ticketing;

(iii)              Be eligible to enter and exit all jurisdictions involved in the trip;

(iv)               Have access to at least one (1) valid major credit card in good standing;

(v)                Either the Grand Prize winner or the Guest must be at least 25 years of age and possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license issued by their Canadian province or territory of residence.

Travel must be booked through the Sponsor. Once booked, a reservation for the Trip may not be rescheduled, changed, extended or substituted. Some additional restrictions may apply.

For greater certainty and without limiting the generality of the foregoing, it is understood that the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to change any element of the Prize in the event that reasonable airfare or the Accommodations cannot be obtained or in the case of any other circumstances beyond the Sponsor’s control.

The Prize must be accepted as awarded and is not transferable, assignable or convertible to cash (except as may be specifically permitted by Sponsor in its sole and absolute discretion).  No substitutions except at Sponsor’s option.  Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to substitute this prizing or a component thereof with a prize of equal or greater retail value, including, without limitation, but at Sponsor’s sole and absolute discretion, a cash award. No component of the Prize may be returned after pick-up. Items comprising the Prize cannot be changed, except in the Sponsor’s sole and absolute discretion. No rain checks will be provided. The Prize is non-refundable, non-transferable and may not be reissued or revalidated. The Prize cannot be combined or used in conjunction with any other contest or offer

The Sponsor reserves the right to allow the winner to select alternate travel dates, subject to availability and approval. Otherwise, travel must take place July 8–17, 2026.

PRIZE WINNER SELECTION PROCESS:

Monthly Prize Draws

There are four (4) Monthly Prize Draws scheduled to occur on the first business day following each applicable Monthly Contest Closing Date (each a “Monthly Draw Date”).

1.                   Eligible Entries Per Draw: Each Monthly Prize Draw will include all eligible entries received during the Contest Period up to and including 11:59:59 p.m. MT on the applicable Monthly Contest Closing Date. For clarity, eligible entries accumulate throughout the Contest Period and remain eligible for all subsequent Monthly Prize Draws unless previously selected as a winning entry.

2.                   Selection Method: On each Monthly Draw Date, one (1) eligible entrant will be selected by random draw from among all eligible entries received as of the applicable Monthly Contest Closing Date.

3.                   Odds of Winning: The odds of winning a Monthly Prize depend on the total number of eligible entries received up to and including the applicable Monthly Contest Closing Date.

4.                   Notification and Verification: The Sponsor or its designated representative will attempt to contact each selected entrant by email or telephone within seven (7) business days of the applicable Monthly Draw Date. To be declared a confirmed winner, a selected entrant must:

a)       Respond within the timeframe specified in the notification;

b)       Correctly answer, unaided, a mathematical skill-testing question to comply with Canadian legal requirements;

c)       Sign and return a declaration and release form (as provided by the Sponsor) within seven (7) business days of receipt; and

d)       Otherwise, comply with these Official Rules.

5.                   Forfeiture and Alternate Selection: If a selected entrant does not meet all of the above conditions or is otherwise disqualified, they will forfeit the prize, and the Sponsor may, at its sole discretion and time permitting, conduct an alternate random draw from among the remaining eligible entries for that month.

Grand Prize Draw

One (1) Grand Prize Draw will occur on October 1, 2025 (the “Grand Prize Draw Date”).

1.                   Eligible Entries: All eligible entries received during the entire Contest Period (May 1 to September 30, 2025) will be included in the Grand Prize Draw. For clarity, entries from all months are eligible, regardless of whether the entrant has won a Monthly Prize.

2.                   Selection Method: On the Grand Prize Draw Date, one (1) eligible entrant will be selected by random draw from among all eligible entries received during the Contest Period.

3.                   Odds of Winning: The odds of winning the Grand Prize depend on the total number of eligible entries received throughout the Contest Period.

4.                   Notification and Verification: The selected entrant will be notified and required to satisfy the same verification and eligibility confirmation process as described under the Monthly Prize Draws above.

5.                   Forfeiture and Alternate Selection: If the selected entrant does not meet the required conditions or is otherwise disqualified, the Sponsor may, at its sole discretion and time permitting, select an alternate entrant using the same process.

WINNER NOTIFICATION AND CONFIRMATION:

The Sponsor or its designated representative will make a minimum of three (3) attempts to contact the potential Prize winner by email or telephone (using the information provided at the time of entry) within seven (7) business days of the Selection Date. If the potential Prize winner cannot be contacted within seven (7) business days of the Selection Date, or if there is a return of any notification as undeliverable; then he/she may, in the sole and absolute discretion of the Sponsor, be disqualified (and, if disqualified, will forfeit all rights to the Prize) and the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion and time permitting, to select an alternate potential Prize winner following the same winner selection procedure described above (with the necessary amendments), in which case the foregoing provisions of this section shall apply to such new potential Prize winner. The Sponsor will not be responsible for failed attempts to contact a protect Prize winner.

 

GENERAL CONDITIONS:

All Entries become the property of the Sponsor. Any entries by third parties, or generated by a script, macro or by any other automated means whatsoever (including, without limitation, any electronic, robotic or computer automated or automatic contest entry program, tool, service, script, bot, macro, system or software, whether commercially developed or otherwise), or that contain typographical errors, are altered, tampered with, incomplete, inaccurate, irregular in any way, or otherwise not in compliance with the Rules, will be considered null and void and will cause the disqualification of such entrant from the Contest and repeated violations of the foregoing may render such entrant ineligible for future contests or promotions offered by the Sponsor.

 

This Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws.  The decisions of the Sponsor with respect to all aspects of this Contest are final and binding on all entrants without right of appeal, including, without limitation, any decisions regarding the eligibility/disqualification of Entries and/or entrants.  ANYONE DEEMED BY THE SPONSOR TO BE IN VIOLATION OF THESE RULES FOR ANY REASON IS SUBJECT TO DISQUALIFICATION IN THE SOLE AND ABSOLUTE DISCRETION OF THE SPONSOR AT ANY TIME.  

 

The Sponsor does not assume any responsibility and will not be held liable:

·         for weather conditions; acts of God; acts of war or terrorism; civil disturbances; local, provincial, or federal laws, regulations, policies, orders, protocols, or guidelines; strike or work stoppage; epidemic, pandemic, or any other issue concerning public health or safety; or any other event or condition outside its control that may cause the delay, postponement, suspension, rescheduling or cancellation, or the restriction on persons attending, any aspect of the Prize;

·         in the event that the Prize winner and the Guest are denied entry to or exit from any Airport, any other stop-over location or readmission into their initial departure location;

·         in the event that the Prize winner and the Guest are denied entry into any lodging facilities; and

·         for any other circumstances beyond the Sponsor’s reasonable control.   

 

The Released Parties will not be liable for: (i) any failure of any website during the Contest; (ii) any technical malfunction or other problems of any nature whatsoever, including, without limitation, those relating to the telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment or software; (iii) the failure of any Entry or other information to be received, captured or recorded for any reason whatsoever, including, but not limited to, technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website; (iv) any injury or damage to an entrant’s or any other person’s computer or other device related to or resulting from participating in the Contest; and/or (v) any combination of the above.

 

Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, by participating in the Contest, each entrant hereby fully discharges and releases, and agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Released Parties from any and all claims, demands, actions, or causes of action for liability, damages, loss, death, or injury, howsoever arising, which each entrant, the Prize winner, the Guest, and such persons’ heirs, executors, and administrators may now or hereinafter have against the Released Parties related to, arising out of, or resulting from:

a)       participation in the Contest or acceptance/use/misuse of any Prize;

b)       the Grand Prize, including but not limited to:

                                   i.     RV Road Trip Experience: mechanical failure, accidents, or traffic violations while operating the RV; risks inherent to road travel (e.g., weather, wildlife, road conditions); acts/omissions of third-party RV providers;

                                 ii.     Air Travel: airline delays, cancellations, lost luggage, or acts/omissions of third-party carriers;

                               iii.     Accommodations: unsafe conditions, theft, or injuries at campgrounds/RV parks;

                               iv.     Spending Cash: misuse of funds or harm caused by purchases made with the cash;

                                 v.     changes to Prize components (e.g., RV type, itinerary, campgrounds) at the Sponsor’s sole discretion;

c)       the negligence of the Released Parties (to the fullest extent permitted by law).

 

This release applies regardless of whether the claim arises from:

·         The design, quality, safety, or functionality of any Prize component (including third-party services);

·         Unforeseen events (e.g., natural disasters, pandemics, supplier bankruptcy);

·         Physical, emotional, or financial harm arising directly or indirectly from the Prize.

The Released Parties assume no responsibility for the Prize’s safety, quality, or fitness for purpose.

 

In the event of a dispute regarding who submitted an Entry, the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to require any individual who purports to be the entrant that submitted the Entry in question to provide proof to the complete satisfaction of the Sponsor (as determined by the Sponsor in its sole and absolute discretion) of being the entrant that submitted such Entry. Failure to provide such proof to the complete satisfaction of the Sponsor within the timeline specified by the Sponsor may result in disqualification (as determined by the Sponsor in its sole and absolute discretion).

 

The Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole and absolute discretion to withdraw, amend or suspend this Contest (or to amend these Rules) in any way, in the event of any cause beyond the reasonable control of the Sponsor that interferes with the proper conduct of this Contest as contemplated by these Rules, including, without limitation, any error, technical problem, computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud or technical failure.  Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest in any way (as determined by Sponsor in its sole and absolute discretion) is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, the Sponsor reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law.  The Sponsor, at its sole and absolute discretion reserves the right to cancel, amend or suspend this Contest, or to amend these Rules, in any way without prior notice or obligation, in the event of any accident, printing, administrative, or other error of any kind, or for any other reason whatsoever.  Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to administer an alternate test of skill as it deems appropriate based on the circumstances and/or to comply with applicable law.

 

By entering this Contest, each entrant: (i) expressly consents to the Sponsor, its agents and/or representatives, storing, sharing and using the personal information submitted with his/her Entry only for the purpose of administering the Contest and in accordance with Sponsor’s privacy policy (available at: https://mcsweeneys.ca/privacy-statement/); (ii) irrevocably grant to the Sponsor the right to include their name and information (including e-mail address) on any of the Sponsor’s mailing/email lists and for any live person to person calls for promotional purposes relating to the Sponsor and to use their name in any publicity carried out by the Sponsor; and (iii) agree to grant to the Sponsor a non-exclusive irrevocable license and right to incorporate, use and reproduce their photograph, voice, name, likeness, city or original hometown and province or territory of residence, in whole or in part in and in connection with the advertising, exhibiting, marketing, promotion and exploitation of its business in any manner, in all media throughout the world whether now known or hereinafter devised, including without limitation, the Website as well as any other of the Sponsor’s online social networking and media marketing web pages, and all forms of print, radio, television, home video, CD ROM, DVD, and other interactive “electronic” media, in perpetuity. Those individuals who do not wish that their personal information be used for such purposes are required to so indicate in writing to the Sponsor at the following address: Bay 1, 2355 52nd Avenue SE, Calgary, Alberta, T2C 4X7; ATTENTION: Direct Plus Food Group Customer Service.

 

This section does not limit any other consent(s) that an individual may provide the Sponsor or others in relation to the collection, use and/or disclosure of their personal information.

 

The Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole and absolute discretion to adjust any of the dates, timeframes and/or other Contest mechanics stipulated in these Rules, to the extent necessary, for purposes of verifying compliance by any entrant or Entry with these Rules, or as a result of any technical or other problems, or in light of any other circumstances which, in the opinion of the Sponsor, in its sole and absolute discretion, affect the proper administration of the Contest as contemplated in these Rules, or for any other reason.

 

In the event of any discrepancy or inconsistency between the terms and conditions of these Rules and disclosures or other statements contained in any Contest-related materials or website(s), including, but not limited to: an entry form, and/or point of sale, television, print or online advertising; the terms and conditions of these Rules shall prevail, govern and control to the fullest extent permitted by law.

 

It is each entrant’s sole responsibility to notify the Sponsor in writing at the address indicated above if he or she changes his or her e-mail or mailing address or other contact information. All corrections to contact information must be received by the Sponsor during the Contest Period.

 

If any terms of the Rules are or become invalid, are ruled illegal by any court of competent jurisdiction, or are deemed unenforceable under then current applicable laws, it is the intention of the parties hereto that the remainder of the Rules will not be affected thereby and will remain in full force and effect.

CHOICE OF LAW:

All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Rules, or the rights and obligations of an entrant and the Released Parties in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.
